We are a mother and daughter, with a passion and love for everything natural.
Leah Smith graduated as a Cosmetologist in 2012, and Tina Køster as a Reflexologist in 1987. This is where part of our interest in researching and developing products comes from, as well as finding the best ingredients and combinations for our skin. However, part of our passion also stems from being able to create a brand with a real focus on the natural. A brand that you, as a consumer, can trust and one that is transparent about the products it produces.
We have both experienced this as a challenge within the industry, and therefore want to make a difference for consumers in a market that can be difficult to navigate.
A desire for completely natural
products arises.
Smith&Køster was born out of a shared idea and passion for purity and authenticity between mother and daughter. For a long time, we've talked about the frustration surrounding the word 'completely natural' and how we can help make 'natural' a term that everyone can embrace.
It all started with us producing a single product and a desire to sell it at a roadside stand. However, before we even managed to set up the stand, we were contacted by our first store. We quickly realized there was interest and a gap in the market for 'completely natural,' as we, Smith&Køster, see it.
Today, we are still a small business with big dreams for the future. Our motto is – 'Skincare with care.' We hope you will join us in supporting the natural, genuine, and transparent approach to skincare in the future.
We love spending time together creating products from scratch, but most of all, seeing how natural the product can become and the effects it can have, even with the most basic and natural ingredients – all without compromising on quality.
Sea salt is not just sea salt!
The Sicilian salt used in Smith&Køster products is unrefined and has a high mineral content. The sea salt, which has been hand-harvested for the last 3,000 years, comes from salt basins that are WWF-protected due to the many rare migratory birds and flamingos.
The salt is sustainable, as no machinery is allowed to enter the area. There is almost no industry on the western side of Sicily, which means the water, and consequently the salt, is very pure. In the spring, the natural basins are filled with seawater, and with the help of the warm Sicilian sun and strong African winds, the water evaporates, leaving the salt behind. It is salt in its purest form, without the addition of anti-caking agents or other additives.
By using this salt in our products, we opt out of contamination from machine use right from the start.
Your purchase supports organic farmers in Tanzania
Our coconut oil comes from Tanzania, where we support a project that helps organic farmers grow their crops sustainably through two Danish companies. This adds value for Tanzania, as the product is processed locally and not unnecessarily exported for processing in other industrial countries. This creates jobs in the area and ensures the organic farmers a greater market for their products. Therefore, we receive the product in its purest form for our handcrafted products.

Our jars are food safe and can also be used for storing food after use.

Smith&Køster is a brand of handmade Danish wellness products, based on natural ingredients with the finest quality raw materials. Many of the ingredients are handpicked from the Danish nature, which is also reflected in our products. Our products are free from additives, chemicals, and many are vegan and organic.

Smith&Køster uses fragrance from essential oils, which come from extracts of plants, herbs and trees. All our soaps are of course 100% handmade and hand-cut, therefore there may be some variation in both colors, patterns and expressions.
